Erinnerungsstätte Notaufnahmelager Marienfelde, Marienfelder Allee, Berlin, Deutschland

The Marienfelde Refugee Centre offers a fascinating 450 square metre journey through the history of the flight from the GDR. With over 900 exhibits, it enables visitors to explore the causes, course and consequences of these significant historical events.

One of the most impressive aspects of the exhibition is the intensive examination of the individual decisions made by people to leave their homes in the GDR. Through a multitude of personal stories and documents, the complex reasons behind these decisions become clear. The exhibition sensitively illuminates the challenges, fears and hopes associated with the flight.

The presentation of the escape routes and methods is also particularly remarkable. From crossing the border to arriving in the "Golden West", the different routes taken by the refugees are impressively presented. This conveys a profound understanding of the risks and determination of the refugees.

However, the memorial site not only offers a fascinating permanent exhibition, but also supplements its programme with regular special exhibitions that shed light on other facets of the refugee movement. In addition, the wide-ranging programme of events and educational activities offers visitors a variety of opportunities to explore the topic in greater depth.

Overall, the Marienfelde Refugee Centre is an impressive testimony to the history of the refugee movement from the GDR. Its informative and sensitive presentation, combined with a varied programme of events, makes it an indispensable place for anyone interested in this important chapter of German history.
