TD Berlin, Eingang rechts, Klosterstraße, Berlin, Deutschland
The Theaterdiscounter, or TD for short, represents a contemporary theatre in the heart of Berlin. It is one of the most important performance venues and production centres of the independent theatre scene. The repertoire includes not only new dramas, thematic play developments and political performances, but also regularly features classical texts and motifs.
Its foundation in 2003 marked the beginning of continuous programming throughout the year. The TD presents its own productions, innovative formats and festivals, and maintains collaborations with professional theatre makers from Berlin and the German-speaking world. In addition to festivals and programme series, national and international guest performances enrich the repertoire.
Every year, we invite our audience to more than 40 productions, which are presented in over 140 performances (as of 2016). Our theatre is characterised by unconventional storytelling that creates space for new ideas and artistic and social concepts. We are often political, occasionally anti-illusionist, sometimes simply real and always a guarantee of first-class theatre. One of our primary goals is to make reality visible in an unusual way. In April 2018, the TD celebrated its 15th birthday with an impressive number of artists, ensembles, formats and guests of honour, representing 15 eventful and moving seasons.
Since 2009, the TD has been located in the former telecommunications office (East) and the current theatre and studio building Klosterstraße, very close to Alexanderplatz. The premises on the 2nd floor with a view of the Rotes Rathaus include a spacious, convertible presentation hall (370m2), offices, rehearsal rooms and workshop space. They are not only suitable for theatre performances, but also for conferences, festivals, exhibitions and transdisciplinary events and can be rented. State-of-the-art sound, lighting and video technology as well as the flexible stage and audience platforms adapt to the diverse requirements of the space.
Since its foundation, the Volksbühne has continuously developed innovative forms of theatre direction and expanded their impact.

We present ourselves as a theatre for children and young people, which means that our focus is strongly on performances for children of primary school age. Occasionally, we also put on evening performances and enjoy great popularity with the "adult audience" with the same productions that we organise for families and school classes.
