Staatliche Museen zu Berlin – Preußischer Kulturbesitz - Verwaltung, Stauffenbergstraße, Berlin, Deutschland

The institution, known as the National Museums in Berlin (SMB for short), is an outstanding institution of the Prussian Cultural Heritage Foundation and is one of the largest universal museums in the world. Its origins date back to its foundation in 1823 by the Prussian King Friedrich Wilhelm III. As the guardian of works of art, archaeological finds and ethnological artefacts from various eras, from antiquity to the present day, the National Museums in Berlin have divided their collections between two main locations: the UNESCO World Heritage Site Museum Island in Mitte and the Kulturforum in Tiergarten. With an impressive collection of around 5.3 million works, they are undoubtedly one of the most outstanding art collections in Europe. In 2019, the National Museums in Berlin recorded a total of 4.2 million visitors, with the Neues Museum being the most popular with 828,000 visitors.
