The "Museum für Naturkunde - Leibniz Institute for Evolution and Biodiversity Research" is one of the Leibniz Association's outstanding research museums and is a world leader in the fields of biological and geoscientific evolution and biodiversity.

We are passionate about exploring the earth and life in close dialogue with society. Through our clear mission, vision, strategy and structure, we are establishing the museum as an excellent research institute with co-operation partners in Berlin, Germany and more than 60 other countries. We welcome over 600,000 visitors every year, and the steadily growing participation in educational and event programmes is impressive proof that we are an innovative communication centre that plays a key role in shaping the scientific and social discourse on the future of our planet - on a global level.

Research and our extensive collections, together with knowledge transfer, form the heart of the museum. Our collections, consisting of over 30 million objects in the fields of zoology, palaeontology, geology and mineralogy, are not only a unique cultural heritage, but are also directly linked to our research of the highest scientific and scientific-historical importance.

In the permanent exhibitions and regular special exhibitions, we give the public an insight into the museum's current research. Authentic research objects take centre stage. Instead of following predefined paths, visitors explore the fascinating topics on their own "expedition" and experience evolution at first hand.
