Museum Ephraim-Palais, Poststraße, Berlin, Deutschland

Special exhibitions on the history and culture of Berlin take place in the Ephraim-Palais of the Stadtmuseum Berlin. A wide range of topics are presented here. The "Salon Ephraim" and the museum laboratory offer a wide range of events, workshops and hands-on activities for the whole family. Veitel Heine Ephraim, court jeweller and coin tenant of King Frederick II, had the magnificent rococo palace built between 1762 and 1766. The building soon became known as the "most beautiful corner" of Berlin. The name Ephraim is still associated with the palace today. In addition to an inviting portal and angled flights of rooms, the oval building has one of the most impressive staircases in Berlin. In 1936/37, the palace had to make way for the expansion of Mühlendamm and the façade sections were stored in the Berlin district of Wedding. Plans by West Berliners to rebuild the palace in Kreuzberg failed in 1982, but the architectural remains were brought to East Berlin instead as part of an East-West cultural goods exchange. As part of the redesign of the Nikolai Quarter to celebrate Berlin's 750th anniversary, the Ephraim Palace found its current location just a few metres away from the original site. With the help of the preserved original components, it was rebuilt as a museum based on the historical model.
