The Military History Museum (Air Force Museum) in Berlin-Gatow is dedicated to the fascinating history of military aviation and air warfare in Germany. As a living testimony to the recent development of the use of military force in our country, the museum presents exhibitions that offer a deep insight into the changes in the understanding of war and military force through the use of the air force. The focus is not only on the purely technical aspect of machines and strategies, but also on the cultural-historical significance of air warfare. The permanent exhibitions of the Military History Museum impress visitors with one of the world's largest collections of large military equipment. Aircraft, transport and combat helicopters, radar systems, fighter-bombers, anti-aircraft missile systems and even nuclear weapon carriers are arranged in twelve fascinating themed areas. Particularly noteworthy is the permanent exhibition "Zwischengelandet" (landed in between) in Hangar 3, which takes an in-depth look at the development of military aviation in Germany. In eight sections, it takes visitors from the beginnings in the 19th century to the present day. Also in Hangar 3, the permanent exhibition "You can't miss Gatow" tells the eventful history of the airfield. Due to its military relevance, the airfield is closely linked to the history of Berlin and Germany. Over the years, it has changed hands from the National Socialists to the Red Army, the Royal Air Force and finally the German Bundeswehr.
