The Maxim Gorki Theatre, which is located in the Singakademie on Unter den Linden boulevard, is the smallest and most beautiful of Berlin's ensemble theatres and also has historical significance. Its founding in 1952 as a theatre for the present made it an important place for the citizens of East Berlin, a municipal theatre in the best sense of the word - critical and dissident. In 1988, the theatre prophetically anticipated the peaceful revolution of 9 November 1989 with Thomas Langhoff's production of Volker Braun's Transitional Society. We invite you to enter this public space, where the condition humaine of contemporary man and his conflicts of identity are reflected through the art of making and watching theatre. Our aim is to contribute to a careful and patient debate about how we live together in today's diversity.
