The Deutsches Theater in Berlin is undoubtedly one of the most outstanding spoken theatre stages in the German-speaking world. Behind its graceful classical façade lies a theatre that was founded in 1849 and today proudly presents three different stages: The Grosses Haus, which has around 600 seats, the Kammerspiele with around 230 seats and the Box, which was inaugurated in 2006 - a compact black box located in the foyer of the Kammerspiele with 80 seats. The repertoire of this established theatre includes timeless classics and modern masterpieces by greats such as Shakespeare, Schiller, Chekhov, Sartre, Ibsen and Goethe. On the other hand, works by contemporary authors such as Lukas Bärfuß, Dea Loher, Wolfram Lotz, Roland Schimmelpfennig, Ferdinand Schmalz and Nis-Momme Stockmann are staged and celebrate their world premieres. The Autorentheatertage, a fortnightly festival of contemporary drama, is undoubtedly a highlight in the Deutsches Theater's calendar of events.
Since its foundation, the Volksbühne has continuously developed innovative forms of directing and expanded their impact.

We present ourselves as a theatre for children and young people, which means that our focus is strongly on performances for children of primary school age. Occasionally, we also put on evening performances and enjoy great popularity with the "adult audience" with the same productions that we organise for families and school classes.
