Café Theater Schalotte is an off-theatre without a permanent ensemble. The leitmotif "Everything will be fine!" embodies a unique theatre concept that has been successfully bringing culture to the neighbourhood since 1980. In the premises of the former Baldur cinema in Charlottenburg, committed people from the neighbourhood and all over Berlin work on a voluntary basis to make a diverse theatre programme possible. Since its foundation in 1980, the Schalotte has been a project of the Protestant church district of Charlottenburg, which is now known as the Protestant church district of Charlottenburg-Wilmersdorf.
As a theatre without a permanent ensemble, we open our stage to a wide range of stage arts: we stage tap, flamenco dance, classical spoken theatre, musicals, concert music and singing.
Highlights of our programme include the Berlin A Cappella Festival, which has been held here every November since the mid-1990s, and the TotalChoral pop and jazz choir series in early summer. We include in our programme what inspires us: requests from artists are discussed together as a team.
Since its foundation, the Volksbühne has continuously developed innovative forms of theatre direction and expanded their impact.
