Bröhan-Museum, Schloßstraße, Berlin, Deutschland

The Bröhan Museum, Berlin's state museum for Art Nouveau, Art Deco and Functionalism, bears the name of its founder Karl H. Bröhan (06/07/1921 - 02/01/2000). Karl H. Bröhan, an enthusiastic collector and expert in Art Nouveau, Art Deco and the art of the Berlin Secession, opened a private museum in a villa in Dahlem in 1973. On his 60th birthday in 1983, he donated the collection to the state of Berlin, and the Bröhan Museum found its home in the current premises of Charlottenburg Palace, which were originally built for the guard regiment. Since 1994, the Bröhan Museum has developed into a state museum, and Karl H. Bröhan's collection is both a challenge and an obligation for us. With a unique collection of Art Nouveau, Art Deco and the art of the Berlin Secession, the Bröhan Museum, as a place for Art Nouveau and design of the first half of the 20th century, presents regularly changing presentations from its holdings on around 1000 square metres of exhibition space. At the same time, we strive to explore the contemporary relevance and realisation of the issues that shaped the art and design of the 20th century. Our temporary exhibitions therefore not only focus on Art Nouveau, Art Deco and the Berlin Secession, but also scrutinise issues relating to art and design right up to the present day. Our core competences in Art Nouveau, Art Deco and the Berlin Secession are complemented by contemporary themes in art, applied art and design from 1950 to the present day.
