The Bode Museum is a museum in Berlin, located on Museum Island. It was reopened in October 2006 after six years of restoration. The sixty-six rooms of the neo-baroque building are mainly used to exhibit sculptures. The Bode Museum was built to house the sculpture collection of Wilhelm von Bode. Even today, the Bode Museum mainly displays sculptures alongside paintings from the Picture Gallery collection. The focus is on Byzantine sculpture, the Western Roman Empire as well as Italian, French and Spanish Gothic and the early Renaissance. The joint presentation of sculptures, paintings and furniture in period rooms corresponds to Bode's ideal of presentation. The Coin Cabinet is one of the largest numismatic collections in the world. It begins with the beginnings of coinage in Asia Minor in the 7th century BC and covers the entire history of numismatics up to the present day. With around 500,000 exhibits, the collection forms a unique archive for historical research.
