The Berliner KinderTheater treats families to two outstanding theatre series: one in summer on the open-air stage at the Zitadelle Spandau and one in winter at the Fontane-Haus in the Märkisches Viertel.
The Berliner KinderTheater has been a fixture in Berlin's cultural landscape for over three decades and is one of the city's most renowned children's theatres. In 2017, the family theatre series had an impressive thirteen and eleven years of independent funding behind them.
In keeping with BKT's guiding principle, the major challenges facing children's literature worldwide are presented in a way that emphasises the nuances between good and evil and leaves out the pedagogical finger-wagging. Instead, comedy serves as a creative vehicle in the theatre.
In addition, the Berliner KinderTheater offers a variety of internships, whether for school pupils, those seeking guidance or those with professional qualifications. The practical approach always takes centre stage, with important soft skills also being taught. Experienced instructors with university degrees accompany the interns. Innovative projects are also initiated and developed. The BKT is a proud member of the Landesverband Freier Theater Berlin (laft-berlin.de) and berlin-buehnen.de.
Since its foundation, the Volksbühne has continuously developed innovative forms of theatre direction and expanded their impact.
